Where Are Permanent End Caps Useful?

Permanent End-Cap Boosts Quality and Performance for Exit Devices

In heavy-use environments, installing the right door system is essential. Contributing significantly to the durability and longevity of a rim exit device is the end-cap.  Most doors in these environments use exit devices with traditional end caps that are affixed to the device, and over time with wear and tear, these devices inevitably fail.

For example, many systems incorporate some sort of an end-cap on the door jamb side of the door. However, through the process of continuously pushing carts through or propping open the door, the end-cap is easily damaged and can be difficult to replace. As the end-cap loosens and starts to dislodge, the metal edges are exposed, easily tearing clothing or even causing bodily injury, which can be especially dangerous in environments where children are present.

Educational environments require door hardware that not only functions to secure the premises but also to maintain durability to keep occupants safe and lower the risk of accidental injury.

Recognizing the need for a higher quality product, Arrow developed the PEC910 series Exit Device, which incorporates a patented permanent end-cap. This innovation ensures that the cap will never break off or create an unsafe edge that could cause accidental injury to students and teachers.

What Facilities Benefit from Permanent End Caps?

Ideal for service areas in schools, restaurants, stores, religious facilities, and similar high-use facilities, this highly durable system delivers the level of robustness and resilience required by these environments. The Arrow PEC910 complies with safety code NFPA 101, is UL and CUL listed for the accident hazard (panic) standard, and is certified Grade 1, per ANSI/BHMA A156.3 Exit Devices.

Offering a 10-year warranty, the chassis of the PEC910 Series Exit Device is manufactured with stamped steel materials, and the chassis cover is made from cast zinc in a seamless, one-piece design.

Installed on doors ranging between 31-in. and 36-in, a mounting hole template is lined up across the lock chassis and push bar, and the installation holes are drilled. Next, the mounting bracket slides into and interlocks with the push bar. Finally, the screws are attached to the slots on the lock chassis.

Arrow PEC910 is Easy to Install

As compared to a typical exit device, which requires a three-person installation team, with the PEC910, one person can easily install the hardware in just 15 minutes.

Available in painted aluminum or brown, the exit device also comes in a higher-end stainless steel finish, as well as a more cost-effective application without the permanent end-cap.

Classroom and school door security is important, but schools are one of the highest-use and highest-abuse environments. For greater mobility and safety, you need a device that is not only functional, but highly durable.
