Rockwood Celebrates 75 Years of Being America’s Preferred Hardware Brand
This year, Rockwood is celebrating 75 years as America’s quality hardware company for commercial, institutional, and finer residential buildings. Since 1946 Rockwood has been an innovator in metal forming, machining, and finishing.
As we cross new milestones, our company has continued to grow and expand, and we want to thank all of our employees for being a part of every achievement and accomplishment.
Rockwood has a rich history of skilled craftsmen and an eye for top-grade hardware. On our anniversary, we want to share some of the history that has contributed to our success.
Rockwood History: Legacy in the Making Since 1946
The Rockwood Manufacturing Company was founded in 1946 by the Gurzenda Family in southwestern Pennsylvania, in a place known as “the heart of America,” Somerset County.
Since the beginning, Rockwood has focused on the design and manufacture of quality builders’ hardware. Over the years, the quality, craftsmanship, and top-grade materials have become an architectural signature of the brand.

Continued Growth with ASSA ABLOY
In 2008, Rockwood joined the ASSA ABLOY family. The company has continued to grow, creating new product lines like Glass Solutions and decorative door pulls. Rockwood products are known for their high-quality construction, beautiful finishes, and custom designs. They collaborate with other ASSA ABLOY Group brands like Corbin Russwin, McKinney, and Pemko through The Good Design Studio which offers suited hardware collections including hinges, lever handles, and sliding door hardware.

Current Innovations at Rockwood
Our Glass Hardware offering has expanded, becoming the industry leader in door security, innovation, and design. The complete line offers door rails, architectural pulls, mechanical and electrified locking products, patch fittings, panic devices, and custom glass solutions.
A pinnacle product launch was that of the Rockwood PDU8500 Architectural Panic Device. The sleek, revolutionary Architectural Panic Device won an Architizer A+ Award in 2020.

To celebrate our 75th anniversary and ongoing commitment to design and craftsmanship, we introduced a new line of round grip architectural door pulls - the Knurled Series.
This textured design produces a better gripping surface while enhancing the aesthetics of your door opening with more than 50 unique finish combinations.
