All-in-one Door Kit Enables New York City Building Owners to Comply with Building Code Requiring ADA Compliant Trash Rooms

THE CHALLENGE

New York City’s building code mandates that trash rooms in newly constructed and renovated high-rise residential buildings be equipped with automated doors to make them fully accessible to disabled persons.

The Code stipulates that residents must have the ability to open trash room doors using a wall push button (Knowing Act Switch). It also requires that the door remains open until the space is vacated and closes and re-latches automatically.

THE SOLUTION

The all-in-one kit dramatically simplifies the installation process. It includes a door operator, 24VDC power supply cabinet with pre-wired occupancy sensor and two wall push buttons (Knowing Act Switches). Because the lock interface and occupancy sensor are pre-wired, it is easy to install and requires no ongoing maintenance.

In addition, the 5800 Series TRD operator consumes only about 1 watt of energy per year on average compared to traditional automated doors which consume about 25 watts per year.
